Moore Options for Seniors has partnered with the State of New Hampshire to pay caregivers to provide live-in care for seniors at home. Living in a home offers a better quality of life and helps defray the cost of expensive nursing home care. This program also applies to caring for a disabled adult.
Here are some of the guidelines under Medicaid:
1. The seniors can be related or unrelated – This means you can care for an aging parent or relative, or you can take in an unrelated qualified individual (senior or disabled) who wants to live in a caring home environment.
2. The senior must qualify for the Choices for Independence program – In summary, the Choices for Independence program requires that individuals qualify for Medicaid and require assistance with some activities of daily living. You can view the guidelines here, but for a simpler explanation and eligibility info you can call the Moore Options for Seniors program director at 603-206-2826 or through the form below.
3. All homes go through a review process and unrelated caregiver homes are required to be certified by the State of New Hampshire. Moore Options for Seniors works with you to guide you through the process and we also provide on-going oversight to ensure that the placement is continually enriching for both parties.
What if You Don’t Qualify for Choices for Independence/Medicaid?
Seniors who don’t currently qualify for Medicaid but want to live in the community instead of a nursing home can still choose to live with an unrelated provider family and pay privately. The cost starts at approximately $2,000 per month, which is a fraction of the cost of a nursing home.
Living in a family home offers a private room, access to a neighborhood setting, and a caring family who provides the support needed to live a full life – including assistance with daily needs (personal care services), family activities, shopping, transportation to appointments, recreation, etc.
